Here’s the gist of what’s coming at the 4.8 update.
WordPress Events and News on Dashboard – You usually see the WordPress news on your dashboard when you log in. Most of my clients ignore these WordPress news and I admit, I do too. But now, WordPress is introducing Events and News on your dashboard. WordPress events near your location will appear on the Events and News dashboard. Now, you won’t miss any WordPress events or Wordcamps in your area.
Image Widget – Okay, so the Events and News on your dashboard doesn’t excite you. How about inserting your image on the widget section with just one click. You normally have to use HTML code to insert an image on your widget section (or hire us to do it for you). At 4.8, you’ll be able to insert an image directly on the widget without using the HTML code.
Text Widget – And if the image insert on widget doesn’t make you starting packing for your vacation, here’s another update that will ease up your work. WordPress 4.8 will give you the ability to edit the text content on widget using a Visual/Text editor similar to editing a page or post. You can create bold and italic texts, create links and list on your widget without using any HTML code.
Video Widget – The video widget will allow you to upload your video (similar to image widget) on the widget section. I don’t recommend you using your website to host your videos because it will just use up your website’s bandwidth. So I always recommend you host your video either in YouTube or Vimeo. The video widget will also allow you to just enter the URL of your Youtube or Vimeo video instead of entering the embed code.
Improved Visual Editor – improved visual editor to edit/create new pages and posts. A new TinyMCE with improved inline elements.
The new WordPress version is set to launch in July. Stay tuned and get ready.
